From: Jason is from a small town in Saskatchewan called Dundurn. Charissa was born and raised in the big city of Toronto, Ontario.
Background: Jason is from a liberal Mennonite family. They did liberal things like owning a TV and Mennonite things like loving their neighbours. Charissa is of Scottish descent from the Ottawa Valley.
Family: Jason and Charissa are happily awaiting the birth of their first child in February 2011.
Religious Affiliation: Canadian National Baptist Convention.
Educational History: Jason has a BA from the University of Saskatchewan with a major in English Literature and a Master of Divinity from the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary. Charissa has a BA from York University with a certificate in Immigration and Refugee Studies. She has a TESOL certificate from Providence College.
At the U of A since: Autumn of 2010.
Why They are Chaplains at the U of A:
Jason: I met a loving and caring God through the work of a Baptist Campus Minister while I was a student. My chaplaincy at the University of Alberta is my expression of gratitude to God and my demonstration of love to students.
Charissa: A personal relationship with an all knowing and all forgiving God who cares so deeply about me and you, has been a source of joy for me in happy times, and the only reason I continued through times of incredible darkness, to find His peace. I believe having a relationship with God is too incredible a gift to keep to myself and wish to encourage others by sharing this gift of hope.
Current focus at the U of A: "Be warm and well fed!" BSM provides a free lunch on Wednesday to provide opportunity to gather and discuss spiritual topics with the Baptist Chaplains in the SUB Chapel on the lower floor. A meat and vegetarian option are always available and yummy desert. Come ask your questions or create a discussion that interests you.
Other Passions & Interests: Jason loves all sports, both playing and watching. Charissa enjoys time spent in nature, keeping active, watching movies, traveling and meeting people.
